When someone asked me recently: “what is it you actually do?” a friend replied: “Katy is some sort of designer/maker/painter dressed up in a big coat”

I am originally from York – a lover of tea and woolly socks. I currently split my time between Bristol and London. I can usually be found telling odd stories in strange places. Designing theatre shows in abandoned swimming pools, the occasional short films, puppets and generally making shows in different ways. I am an award winning designer and art director and a resident artists at Puppet Place Bristol.

In 2022 I was awarded an Arts Council Develop your own creative practice grant to develop my puppet-making and designing skills – with the support of Bath Carnival.

My recent credits include:
Set & Costume Designer for Shakespeare in Love & Women Playing Hamlet at Italia Conti, Designer for Bristol School of Acting’s Mr Burns & The Watsons, Associate Designer Dear Young Monster Bristol Old Vic, a supporting artist with Bath Carnival & freelance work with Lamplighters CIC, Set and Costume designer for A Midsummer Nights’ Dream with Insane Root Theatre 2022, and working as a freelance scenic painter.
